Try checking with 'fdisk', fdisk -l /dev/sdb (-l is lower case L, on my tablet it looks like | (vertical bar), unfortunately) fdisk should give a warning about missing partition table, then mention the 1024 byte sector size as non-standard, but then describe the rest as normal (size etc).
