Multiport memory (MPM) were used as a way of moving large amounts of data between separate computers or devices, for example connecting a disk or for internal sharing of memory between a NORD-10/S and a NORD-50. Multiport memory have been used from the original NORD-1 to the ND-5000 series of computers.

There have been a number of different generations.

  • Multiport Memory : Core memory used in the original NORD-1 up to NORD-10. Third party memory modules.
  • Big MultiPort Memory : First generation of silicon based memory. Up to 4 MByte of memory. Same form factor as the NORD-10 CPU.
  • Multiport Memory 4 : Introduced for the ND-100 / ND-500 computers. Up to 32 MByte of memory. Using a standard ND-100 back plane and same form factor. Introduced with a couple of new options for back planes.
  • Multiport Memory 5 : Highly integrated with the ND-5000 series of CPU:s. Using the same crate and form factor as the ND-5000 CPU.
