Mike: I just noticed that the 'Community portal' link in the navigation bar doesn't point to here (=>NDWiki:Community_Portal), it points to a non-existing page (=>NDWiki:Community_portal). Note different capitalisation. -- TArntsen 15:07, 25 May 2011 (CEST)

Fixed! Thanks for pointing it out. /Mike 09:00, 9 June 2011 (CEST)

Missing pictures

What is the best way to deal with the missing pictures? Should we just upload them again, or is there some "special" procedure? --Torfinn 11:31, 2 February 2012 (CET)

I don't know right now. Let´s start with in a safe way. E-mail me your missing files and I will put them in the correct directory. The meta data about the images is still in the database, so we don't need to update that again. Is that OK with you? /Mike 12:48, 2 February 2012 (CET)
Yes, that works. Email sent. -- Torfinn 18:40, 2 February 2012 (CET)

SINTRAN Commands

Would a list (actually, a page or entry for each) of SINTRAN commands be useful? Or just annoying? --Torfinn 21:57, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

I think such a page would be great! /Mike 17:12, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps we need template for that. I will try to come up with something we can use, but it might take some time. --Torfinn 17:13, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Trying without a template now, just with categories and some editing guidelines. Feedback and comments are welcome. --Torfinn 21:18, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

350 articles

Well, this wiki now contains 350 articles. --Torfinn (talk) 18:11, 25 August 2014 (CEST)

Great work! /Mike (talk) 15:49, 27 August 2014 (CEST)

Downtime - unplanned

the server was offline due to a local power problem (circuit breaker for the server room again). This happened August 26th or 27th sometime. Unfortunately I was away, so I couldn't power on the server until about 18:40 local time. Torfinn (talk) 17:00, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
the server was offline due to a local power problem (the circuit breaker for the server room had tripped, possible due to bad weather / lightning strikes) since around 22:00 yesterday, to about 10:40 today. Torfinn (talk) 08:45, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
I forgot to mention this - there was some (planned) electrical work on the floor with the server room, requiring power to be cut for a few hours. As a result, the server was offline from about 07:30 in the morning to about 16:38 (when I remembered to turn it on). Also, the BIOS battery is dead, so I had to connect a monitor and a keyboard and do "press F1 to continue" before the server would boot. Torfinn (talk) 15:42, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
a defective network switch in Bitraf resulted in the NDwiki server being off the internet from about 10:40 to about 13:54 local time. Torfinn (talk) 15:59, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
power outage for the building that Bitraf resides in this morning. As a result the ndwiki server was down, I restarted it at 13:20. Torfinn (talk) 11:26, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
the building that Bitraf resides in had a power outage between (approximately) 10:30 - 11:30 today. I restarted the NDwiki server at 13:14. Torfinn (talk) 12:19, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
there was an power outage for the building that Bitraf resides in yesterday evening (at around 22:00 hours). The NDwiki server was restarted at 15:13 today. Torfinn (talk) 13:18, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
there was an power outage for the building that Bitraf resides in on 2019-10-01 in the morning. Unfortunately, I didn't find time to restart the NDWiki server until this evening at around 20:00 hours. Torfinn (talk) 18:14, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
rebooted the server at around 11:15. Unsure what the problem was, can't find any clues in logs. Torfinn (talk) 10:28, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
the server was down (ok, it stopped responding, still answered to ping) many hours today. Torfinn (talk) 10:28, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
the server was down for some hours late in the evening / first part of the night. Reason: Bitraf got a new and better server rack for free, so some of our skilled, hard-working members moved everything from the old rack to the new one. --Torfinn (talk) 05:39, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
the server was down from about 00:28 and until about 10:40. Reason seems to be trouble with the storage device (SSD) which lead to a panic, I'm currently looking into if I need to replace the SSD. --Torfinn (talk) 08:55, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
the server was down today - the SSD starting throwing corrupted files many places, so I replaced it. Funnily enough, I did a dump from the (failing) SSD and a restore to the new one, and the only thing I needed to fix (so far) was to reinstall the mediawiki package afterwards. --Torfinn (talk) 22:23, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
the server lost power sometime during the day (the last entry in /var/log/messages is at about 12:14), reason unknown. It was down until I had time to get to it and power it on today (2018-05-23). --Torfinn (talk) 11:07, 23 May 2018 (UTC) Update: it was because of a power outage for the building where the machine is located. --Torfinn (talk) 11:39, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Downtime - planned

the wiki was down a few times while I configured it to use https: instead of http:. Open pages don't refresh / redirect properly, close and re-open. Torfinn (talk) 16:53, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
upgrades. The server and the software on it will be upgraded, so the wiki will be unavailable for most of the day. Torfinn (talk) 18:29, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
the server has been upgraded, and MediaWiki (and the packages it depends on) has been upgraded to version 1.38 (currently latest stable version). Some extensions has been upgraded too. That's all for now. Torfinn (talk) 22:15, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
at around 10:30 local time, I was able to power on the server, and the web site was up a few minutes later. Torfinn (talk) 09:42, 12 August 2022 (UTC)
on August 11th, 2022 the power will be out between 07:30 and 11:00 (approximately) local time, due to upgrades to the power infrastructure in this area. The wiki will be down until I have a chance to power on the machine. Torfinn (talk) 12:34, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
update - this work has been postponed - next possible timeslot is either Friday 12th, or Tuesday 16th. I will update when I know which it is going to be. Torfinn (talk) 20:24, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
update 2 - confirmed to be Friday 12th (tomorrow). Work starts early, and is promised to be done by 08:45 local time. As always, the wiki will be down until I have a chance to power on the machine. Torfinn (talk) 20:21, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
the server was powered on after the power outage around 12:25 local time. As usual, it required attaching a usb keyboard and pressing the F1 button (it shows the "press F1 to continue" message due to a dead bios battery). Torfinn (talk) 07:51, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
this Saturday (May 7th 2022) at around 08:00 local time the power will be cut off for about 15 min (due to preparations to demolish a neighbor building), so the wiki will be down until I can get to it and power on the machine again. Torfinn (talk) 17:19, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Bitraf is moving, and the NDwiki server moves with it. The move starts Saturday September 11th at 12:00 hours local time, and is expected to be completed sometime before midnight. Torfinn (talk) 17:01, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
the move, finding and fixing some network issues took longer than planned, but finally at 23:01 hours local time this evening the machine is online again. Torfinn (talk) 21:59, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
due to work on the electrical power, the building that the NDWiki server resides in (and thus NDWiki too) will be without power on 2019-03-27 from about 00:05 to 06:00 (approximately). I will power on the server when I get in later that day. Torfinn (talk) 09:11, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
the server was powered on again around 10:00 this morning. Torfinn (talk) 09:17, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Due to work on the electrical power, the building that the NDWiki server resides in (and thus NDWiki too) will be down on 2017.10.31 from about 00:05 to 06:30 CET or later that day. I will not be in until later that day to power on the server again. --Torfinn (talk) 17:54, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
up again at approximately 10:05 CET. --Torfinn (talk) 09:25, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

MON 15

Ref. the undocumented MON 15. I was trying to figure out the moncall myself some years ago. The last information I found was from (from my notes) 'the TSS manual', but I can't seem to find this now. Anyway, what I wrote down was:

SETUP - Generate a string descriptor
X = address of string descriptor (5 word object)
 T = location of string
AD = maximum size of string in bytes
   4 character pointers:
     beginning pointer
     end pointer
     reader pointer
     writer pointer
A string is the characters between the reader and writer pointers.
reader <= writer and both pointers must be within beg/end
SETUP seems to take T and A and write a descriptor to (X), with reader=writer=beg

So it looks like it was a moncall in NORD-TSS (TimeSharing System) and may have been backwards supported in SINTRAN due to those old tools. If it is the same call.
Update: The TSS manual: Norsk Data Document ND–60.039.01 REFERENCE MANUAL FOR THE NORD TIMESHARING SYSTEM --TArntsen (talk) 21:48, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

Terminal emulator

I am looking for a terminal emulator (for Linux), preferably a Tandberg type.

I'm not aware of a Tandberg terminal emulator, unfortunately. At one point I considered writing one myself, but I didn't get around to it. I use an xterm with my emulator, it works fine as type 6 (VT100). TArntsen (talk) 10:07, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
